Great weather, great food, great hangar talk and of course – great company! The 2015 Lou Fields Memorial BBQ was a success! Our Piper Warrior was washed, food and drinks served – all in memory of the legendary aviator.

Victory! Shannon Rubicam is Alameda Aero Club’s newest Instrument Pilot! To quote DPE Rob Davids, “Shannon was an instrument flying machine!” Today was the the culmination of almost a year’s hard work on Shannon’s part. There is a Gold Star in the Book of Tenacity by her name. I am so proud of her!

Our next Member Meeting is on Sunday, August 2nd, complete with plane wash and BBQ! The plane washing will commence around 10 a.m., with the BBQ to follow around noon. Volunteers needed – for info, contact our Membership Officer.

Once again the Alameda Aero Club participated in the Alameda Fourth of July Parade. Our float was driven by our own membership officer, Uncle Sam (Will Golden). Special thanks to all who volunteered their time preparing the float and taking part in the parade: Andrew and Heather were the “prep” crew; Kath riding with Uncle Sam, while Ken, Chief Pilot, Liz Sommers, and club mechanic, Mark, walked the route distributing United Airlines wings to the crowds.
Finally the right day has come- George Melcer demonstrated he has the right stuff this morning by flying the OAK 28R pattern like a pro. The smile says it all. Now let’s stretch our wings and go XC!!

Congratulations to Matthew Gast, Alameda Aero Club’s newest private pilot! Matthew held a seminar yesterday with DPE Steve Benedict up in Santa Rosa, thus earning his newest certificate. Goes along nicely with the commercial pilot glider and advanced ground instructor certificate he already holds.
